Chemical Peels

What Are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back is smoother. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures. And they can be done at different depths, from light to deep.

    Chemical Peels FAQ

Please reach us at blinkandglowstudios@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We recommend getting a facial every 4-6 weeks to maintain healthy, glowing skin. However, the frequency of facials may vary depending on your skin type and concerns. Our estheticians can help determine the best schedule for you.

Every chemical peel is designed differently to achieve certain results. Schedule a facial consultation with our expert estheticians to determine the best chemical peel for your skin type and goals.

    • Avoid using retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other exfoliants at least 5-7 days before your chemical peel to avoid over-exfoliation.
    • Use a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and plump in the days before your peel.
    • Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays, even if you don’t plan to spend a lot of time outdoors.
    • If you have any open wounds, infections, or cold sores, inform us before your chemical peel. We may need to reschedule your treatment until the condition has healed.
    • Avoid shaving or waxing the area to be treated for at least 24 hours before your chemical peel.
    • Avoid using tanning beds or self-tanners for at least two weeks before your chemical peel.
    • Refrain from picking, scratching, or otherwise irritating your skin before your chemical peel.

    • The peeling may take anywhere from 7-10 days on average or longer depending on internal and external factors such as skin type, age, weather, lifestyle, and hormones.  Slight redness and skin sensitivity and flaking can occur.
    • Your skin may take on a rough, patchy, darkened quality a few days after this treatment.  This is normal and expected and it will resolve on its own.  The first areas to peel are usually around the nose and mouth, but can begin anywhere.  Most people begin peeling on the 3rd or 4th day after treatment.  It is also possible to not peel at all.  If this occurs, you will still benefit from the treatment because the skin has exfoliated microscopically.
    • Possible side effects include but are not limited to: mild to extreme redness, temporary tightness, itching, swelling, and dryness of the skin similar to a sunburn or windburn.  This will usually subside in 2-3 days.

    • Make sure to avoid excessive heat on the treated area and direct sun exposure of any kind, as well as tanning beds and self-tanners to the treated areas for up to a week or as directed.
    • Do NOT tweeze, pick, rub, exfoliate, wax, use a depilatory for up to 2 weeks or as directed.
    • Moisturize: Use a fragrance-free, water-based moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and reduce irritation.
    • Avoid picking at your skin: Let your skin peel on its own. Picking or peeling can damage the skin.
    • Cleanse with cool water: Use cool or room temperature water and pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Hot water can irritate the skin.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise for up to 3-5 days or as directed. Strenuous exercise can cause inflammation.
    • Use sunscreen: Apply sunscreen every day to protect your skin from the sun's UVA/B rays.
    • Don't have another skincare treatment too soon: Wait at least 2 to 3 weeks or as directed, before getting another skincare treatment.
